Review: OtterBox for iPhone 3G

Review: OtterBox for iPhone 3G

Recently I got an IPhone and I immediately started looking for a protective case. I wanted a case  that provided protection from bumps and the occasional drop as well as a belt clip or some easy way to carry the IPhone around.  I eventually decided on the OtterBox for iPhone™ 3G Defender Series™ case and I was not disappointed.OtterBox for iPhone

The OtterBox has a built in clear screen protector that provides protection for the touch screen. This was originally one of the items that drew me to this case; however once I tried installing the case it quickly became frustrated. The thin protective cover would cling to the touch screen and leave little air pockets (air bubbles) between the two layers. I tried removing the case and reinstalling many many times and the bubble always showed up within a few uses. The way I fixed this was to cut a small piece of clear document protector and stick it between the touch screen and the Otterbox clear screen. This worked great and I was once again happy.

The Otter box also has a hard shell that protects from the occasional drop or bump. The IPhone is a nice looking device, but lets be honest, I need to use it in less that electronic friendly environments. The Otterbox’s hard skeleton encases the phone and a silicone skin raps the skeleton to form nice protective barrier. The complete case does make the IPhone a bit larger, however I felt like this was an ok trade off.

To make the Otterbox even more appealing, it comes with a nice belt clip that can double as a stand. The belt clip holds the phone nice a s snug and I have no worries about it falling out with a light bump. I do not think the stand will be much use from me, but it may be a nice addition for some.

The Otterbox sales for $49.95 on the official website, however I found them cheaper searching the internet. I would suggest buying this case from an authorized dealer. The case comes in three different colors; Black, White, and Black/Yellow. The website also shows a pink case but I did not see it available to order.

In conclusion, I do recommend the OtterBox for iPhone™ 3G Defender Series™ from people who need bump and shock protection for their IPhones. I did not like the fact that the built in screen protector would get air pockets between it and the touch screen, however after some playing around I was able to fix this short coming. The belt clip is a not bonus and the quality of the product is great.
